Techniques like X-ray crystallography and increasingly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blopig.com\/blog\/2018\/07\/protein-engineering-and-structure-determination\/\">cryo-electron microscopy<\/a>, let us see molecules to atomic level-of-detail. Microscopes reveal organelles in cells, but seeing the molecular &#8216;trees&#8217; in the cellular &#8216;forest&#8217; requires a synthesis of knowledge. <a href=\"http:\/\/mgl.scripps.edu\/people\/goodsell\">David Goodsell<\/a> was one of the first to show us the emergent beauty of the cell at the molecular level, and work carried out in the <a href=\"http:\/\/mgl.scripps.edu\">Molecular Graphics Laboratory<\/a> at The Scripps Research Institute under the direction of <a href=\"http:\/\/mgl.scripps.edu\/people\/olson\/home.html\">Art Olson<\/a> has led to a 3D molecular modeling tools like <a href=\"http:\/\/epmv.scripps.edu\">ePMV<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.autopack.org\/overview\">autoPACK<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autopack.org\/cellpack-recipes\">cellPACK<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One of the fruits of this labor is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allencell.org\/visual-guide-to-human-cells.html\">Visual Guide to the Cell<\/a>, part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allencell.org\">Allen Cell Explorer<\/a>.
